Business Case
Gulf Air

A NEW HIGH FOR GULF AIR

How Hiring Solutions helped the airline expand its business swiftly whilst improving cost structure

THE GROUP
Established in 1950, Gulf Air has grown from a small scale commuter service into a global player in the aviation sector. However, two things have stayed constant – commitment to the latest in aviation technology and adherence to traditional hospitality.

THE CHALLENGE
In 2002, a three-year turnaround programme was initiated, which included cost restructure, customer focus and fleet expansion. This required Gulf Air to efficiently hire quality employees enmass. Outdated recruitment techniques to meet new-age aspirations, high cost of advertising hundreds of vacancies globally, and ineffective interaction between HR and line managers, were some of Gulf Air’s difficulties. Lengthy time-to-hire forced line managers to recruit themselves and Gulf Air had to absorb unnecessary costs and overheads. Even simple processes such as issuing regret letters took over four weeks and $4 per letter.
